UPDATE: December 2015

In December, we expect the US Government’s Copyright Royalty Board to announce new music royalty rates for webcasters like TheJazzGroove.com.

Whatever their decision, we are required by law to abide by the rates or forced to stop streaming music.

Our station is 100% commercial free. Presently, as one of the largest jazz stations online, we serve about 150,000 listeners.

Our monthly average is just 15 listeners who actually contribute to our radio station. Most public radio stations see 3-4% of their listeners share the financial burden.

Without support from advertisers and with so few listeners paying for the music they’re consuming, we’re broke. Our audience is huge while our revenues are almost non-existant.

As the year ends and we reevaluate our sustainability or lack thereof, we’re asking those of you who are listeners – to contribute. The certainty of a $5 or $10 per month contribution from just 1% of our audience would give us faith to keep streaming in 2016. A one-time $75 or $100 contribution would also be extremely helpful in minimizing financial losses.

If you love Laid-back Jazz as much as we do, be with us. Contribute so we continue expanding our library offering up the most artful and elegant blend of Laid-back Jazz on the Internet.

Surf around, with all due respect, nothing else compares – we checked.

Thanks for taking the time to let us update you – we appreciate your consideration.

URGENT: We must raise $15,000 by January 31st in order to continue operating.

In 2014 our audience grew..which is good news …and bad news. The good news is more people around the world are able to enjoy the laid-back sounds of our station. The bad news is the more people that listen, the more fees we are required to pay to record companies, artists, songwriters, bandwidth companies and for other operating expenses.

Unfortunately, less than one tenth, of 1% of the more than 150,000 listeners we have actually contribute. With our commitment to protect the artistic integrity of the music we air and to maximize your listening pleasure, we will not play commercials. Therefore, our future is in your hands. We need your support in order to stay on the air after January 31st when our funding sunsets. Support The Jazz Groove

How Did Marilyn Monroe Change Ella Fitzgerald’s Life?

Years ago, in an interview Ella explained how Marilyn helped change her life:

I owe Marilyn Monroe a real debt…it was because of her that I played the Mocambo, a very popular nightclub in the ’50s. She personally called the owner of the Mocambo, and told him she wanted me booked immediately, and if he would do it, she would take a front table every night. She told him – and it was true, due to Marilyn’s superstar status – that the press would go wild. The owner said yes, and Marilyn was there, front table, every night. The press went overboard. After that, I never had to play a small jazz club again. She was an unusual woman – a little ahead of her times. And she didn’t know it.” – Ella Fitzgerald

New Diana Krall Songs On TheJazzGroove.com!

Featured Uncategorized

TheJazzGroove.com is airing several new songs from Diana Krall’s forthcoming CD.

About the CD from USA Today:

Diana Krall may have won Grammys for her jazz recordings, but she shows serious pop chops on her cover of Desperado.
Inspired by Linda Ronstadt, one of her parents’ favorite performers, Krall displays tender affection for the song and its fence rider, a subtle rasp sneaking into her voice as she sings about betting on the queen of hearts.
Ronstadt recorded the Glenn Frey/Don Henley piano ballad for her 1973 album Don’t Cry Now after the Eagles had made it the title track of their second album earlier that year.
Desperado is one of two Eagles songs Krall covers on Wallflower album.

Also included on the album are covers of songs from:

The Carpenters
The Mamas & the Papas
The Beatles
Jim Croce
Elton John
And many others!

New George Benson CD Pays Tribute to Nat King Cole

Coming in June to TheJazzGroove.com!

After four years of touring and developing “An Unforgettable Tribute to Nat King Cole,” the legendary George Benson makes his most inspired album: Inspiration: A Tribute to Nat King Cole. The recording is one of the most meaningful of Benson’s career and is a testament to the spirit of Cole’s timeless body of work. Benson’s heartfelt renditions of some of Cole’s greatest songs with Nelson Riddle arrangements and the 42-piece Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra are complemented by duets with Tony Award winner Idina Menzel and rising star Judith Hill, along with a special collaboration with multi-GRAMMY and Pulitzer Prize-winning trumpeter Wynton Marsalis.

In Memoriam

A statement from Donald Byrd’s nephew, Alex Bugnon “Let’s remember Donald as a one of a kind pioneer of the trumpet, of the many styles of music he took on, of music education. In sum, Donald was an avid, eternal student of music, until his death. That’s what I try to be, everyday!! Rest in peace, uncle!”
